Frequently Asked Questions

What do Bright Research do?

Bright Research supports brands and companies by recruiting the most suitable candidates for their market research requirements.

What is market research?

Market research is when a company will ask members of the public their opinions and beliefs on a product or service or factors surrounding it, in order for them to test and make decisions about improving that product / service, a new launch, advertising or packaging. It could be an online survey, telephone interview, focus group, one to one interview or product testing.

What is a focus group?

A focus group consists of a small number of people that have been brought together in order to discuss their opinions for the purposes of market research, in a formal yet laid back environment.

Should I register?

Yes! Every project we are asked to recruit for we will search our database for the most suitable people to take part. If you are successful you will get paid for your time, as well as your opinions making a difference to shaping the future of products, services and marketing.

How do I register?

Register here. You will be taken through a series of questions to build your profile so that we can find out more about you and you can be matched to the requirements for a relevant research study.

What happens after I register?

Your information will be stored securely and when a relevant project comes along you will be contacted by email with all the details to see if you want to apply. Successful applicants will be taken through a pre-screening process with a few questions to see if you fit the criteria for the research. From all the people able to take part we then select the required number of people and you will receive a call or email if you’ve been accepted on that project.

I’ve registered, why haven’t I been contacted to take part in any research?

Every project has specific requirements for candidates and are done on a first come, first served basis. We can’t always accept every person, and every research project has a number of differing requirements, but please keep applying.

If you’ve registered then we will have you in our database and will contact you as soon as a suitable project comes up. Please ensure your details are kept up to date in your profile and that you have uploaded your proof of identity.

Another reason you may not be selected is if you have recently taken part in some research as some projects require you not to have done a project within six months. We are unable to use ‘groupies’ or professional research participants so please do not register if this applies to you. If you have taken part in research with the last six months, please still apply as every client has different criterias.

Can I register with other market research recruiters?

We strongly advise that you only register with one recruiter as many recruiters work across the same clients and clients do not want to use the same people frequently.

How much will I be paid?

It varies but an incentive will typically be between £30 and £150 depending on the project. You will get told how much it will be before you decide if you want to take part in a particular research.

Do I get additional travel expenses paid?

No. All expenses and payment are covered in the total incentive.

Can my friends and family register too?

Yes - please ask them to register or if you are sent a project that you think may be suitable for someone you know then please ask them to register.

Do I have to have previous experience?

No previous experience is necessary but you may need to have knowledge of a particular product to take part in some studies. If there is a specific requirement then we will ask you in the screening process for the research.

How long will a market research project take?

It varies depending on the project but typically between 30 minutes and 3 hours.

Where does the market research take place?

It could be online, over the phone or at a venue in a town or city near you. You will be told the location when you are invited to take part.

When will the research take place?

It varies and you will be told before you commit to take part.

What shall I do if I can’t attend a project?

Please always make us aware with as much notice as possible, because once you are booked in for a project our clients are relying on you to attend and really want your input. We understand that occasionally urgent matters arise and if this happens please let us know as soon as you can by emailing us at info@brightresearch.co.uk.

Am I expected to buy the products I test?

No, you will never be asked to purchase anything and never be sold to - just asked to give your opinions.
